A Galentine's Celebration feat. The Power Pump Girls
by: anna abrahams
Tell us about the Power Pump Girl (PPG) Mission. What attracted you both to the non-profit sphere?
Power Pump Girls, Inc. is dedicated to supporting women in their pursuit to positively impact their communities. With focuses on collaboration and career development, Power Pump Girls provides resources in the form of business networks, mentorship programming, and funding. Our vision is to commission women to inspire action & influence change.
We initially started with a for-profit business model and after meeting with our mentors and sharing our vision, they encouraged us to go the nonprofit route. It TERRIFIED us because it was new territory, but we have had wonderful support in making the transition and are now enjoying learning to navigate the non-profit sector.
How did PPG inspire and shape your views of ‘Galentines Day’?
We have hosted Galentine’s Day parties with our close group of friends for the past several years and decided we wanted to scale it this year to include our PPG squad. We value our girlfriends and the time we share with each other but we also know that there’s a bigger community and we have extended girlfriends in Baton Rouge. Community matters to us and we wanted to share this special “holiday” with ours.
How have strong female relationships shaped the women you are and the women you aspire to be?
We pull from the strength of our mothers, sisters, and friends on a daily basis. Watching the women of the generation before us trailblaze paths of success and equality has been essential in working together with the women to the left & right of us in this generation. Collaboration and mutual support among women of all ages has been instrumental in our growth! We are the first to admit that we don’t have it all together but if we pull together our circle, we have more than enough to get the job(s) done!
Give us a little preview of the Galentines Event. What are you each super pumped about?
We wanted to make the Galentine’s Day event as fun and un-structured as possible. There will be small bites like flat breads and charcuterie (because every girl loves charcuterie) presented in the adorable pink Butterfly Lounge at Provisions on Perkins. Attendees will receive a cute PPG take away, have plenty of photo opportunities, and can discuss fun topics over a glass of champagne!
What would be your biggest encouragement / piece of advice for local boss babes?
Be and believe in your genuine self.
You have the gifts, talents, and ideas that this world NEEDS. Even if you don’t know exactly how to package and deliver it, put yourself out there...you never know who you’re trailblazing for.
