2019: A Year Of Improvement
our “word” for 2019
As the New Year begins I can’t help but ponder on one word - improvement. The start of 2019 offers the perfect opportunity to bring improvement to our businesses, and often it can be in small, simple tasks.
step back and see the big picture.
Because this task can come across as overwhelming, it’s important to do an overview of the past year and determine the strengths and weaknesses of our businesses. This allows us to take a step back and see the bigger, strategic picture of our work. For example, “what worked for us this year?” or “what were the areas that could use some more attention and improvement?”
(yep. you’re going to hear about them again.)
Once we determine which areas need improvement it’s crucial to set S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound). Setting goals helps us picture a long-term vision and gives us short-term motivation. It also helps us organize where we want to direct our energy and efforts. As we begin to achieve these S.M.A.R.T. goals our self-confidence will rise and we will be reminded of our own abilities. These achievements also act as great reminders for our passions and why we do what we do.
As you begin to set your S.M.A.R.T. goals:
Create a “big picture” and imagine where you want to be at the end of 2019. Identify those large-scale goals you want to see yourself achieve over this year.
Take those large-scale goals and break them down into smaller goals that you must obtain in order to reach where you want to be at the end of 2019.
Once that’s planned, start working on achieving those small goals one by one.
Some SMART goals we recommend setting for our clients are…
Don’t avoid those tedious tasks till the last minute (like accounting).
